Van’s Valley planted its roots in the Romeo area more than 50 years ago. Al and Dorothy Van Houtte, along with their growing family, began selling homegrown flowers and produce at their farm stand, which was located in Romeo. Van’s Valley remained in that location, operated through the years by the Van Houtte children, until the summer of 2017.
Now, Van’s Valley finds its home at a larger, more convenient location just four miles north at 35 Mile and Van Dyke, where owner, MaryAlice, has merged with her brother George at Northern Farm Market.
Al and Dorothy’s dedication to selling high quality, locally grown flowers and produce continues to this day through their children and grandchildren. MaryAlice, the youngest of Al and Dorothy’s eight children, brings her life long experience and expertise to growing over 200 variations of flowers, herbs and vegetable plants. A large portion of the winter months are spent in the greenhouse, where she prepares unique potted plants and hanging baskets. MaryAlice also personally chooses high quality, distinctive gifts for the home and garden to sell at the market.
Van’s Valley opens in May with the same familiar faces of MaryAlice and her longstanding employees, who offer a broad knowledge of plants and growing techniques.
The spring and early summer flower season will roll into the produce season, where the top pick of locally grown fruit and vegetables are offered.
